Herdshares

We are now offering herdshares on our herd of registered alpine and oberhasli dairy goats.  It is illegal in the state of Indiana to sell raw milk, but it is not illegal to drink the milk of your own animals.  Herdshares are available so that you can purchase a share of the herd and collect your share of the milk.

Each share will cost $50 initially with a boarding fee of $40 monthly.  This will entitle the purchaser to pick up a gallon of milk weekly most of the year.  The ladies need a rest for two months before kidding again, but we try to stagger our kiddings so that there will always be milk available.  During late winter the amount of milk may be decreased.

Boarding fees should be payed in advance, and shareholders may NOT pay when picking up their milk.  Payments may be mailed or made online.  Shareholders should bring coolers to pick up their milk to keep the milk fresh.

The herd is milked by machine twice daily, and the milk is chilled during milking, strained, and put into new plastic gallon jugs and refrigerated.  Keeping fresh milk cold is imperative.

The ladies are fed grass and alfalfa hay, pasture, and a custom feed made locally.  We use Molly’s Herbal products and avoid chemical dewormers and treatments when possible.  Medications are necessary on occasion, and when they are used we milk the affected doe separately and dispose of her milk for longer than the recommended time.

Please email me for more information.  Herdshare contracts can be emailed, faxed, or picked up in person.  Contracts must be signed and payed before milk is picked up.
